Climate fact sheets for the Lower Austria and Vienna

For Lower Austria, its districts and Vienna, area averages of climate data are collected, analyzed and graphically processed to serve for general information purposes. The use of the data sets SPARTACUS (Spatiotemporal Reanalysis Dataset for Climate in Austria of Geosphere Austria) for the past and ÖKS15 (Climate Scenarios for Austria of the Climate Change Center Austria) for the future guarantees a homogeneous and consistent methodology according to the state of the art in Austria.

Six selected climate indicators from the past (from 1961) are calculated from observed temperature and precipitation data. They are presented as bar charts, which show the relative values of the climate indicator as an anomaly compared to the mean value of the reference period. The climate indicators for the future are based on climate model runs (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 5) and represent mean values for a 30-year period. The future climate indicators are presented in tabular form and show the median and the range of variation of the models for the 30-year climate period and the RCP8.5 emission scenario.

A four-page climate fact sheet is produced for each district, which contains general information on temperature and precipitation trends as well as methodological background knowledge in addition to the temporal development of the climate indicators and brief explanatory descriptions.
