Science Education for Action and Engagement towards Sustainability (SEAS)
SEAS is an EU-project with the aim of creating new scientific forms of education and competences to face the challenges of sustainability.
The Challenge
Our daily lifes are affected by numerous changes in the environment, technological advances and socioeconomic changes in society. What scientific knowledge and skills do students and adults need to meet these challenges?
“Science in and for action”
SEAS develops tools and methods that facilitates cooperation between schools and local communities facing sustainability challenges through “open schooling”.
The project examines six open school networks in Austria, Estonia, Sweden, Italy, Belgium and Norway. Each network carries out projects related to sustainability and is a meeting point for employees from schools, universities, local companies and the civil sector.
With a survey before and after the activities in the school networks and a cross-network analysis, alpS examines the different approaches and methods together with the project partners. Together with a local assessment, these results should show how different digital and social media can be used to facilitate the cooperation between “open schools” and thus to tackle the challenges of sustainability.
