Solar4Kosovo II / Solar District Heating
Assessing climate change induced risks in the context of the Environmental Social Impact Assessment
The KfW Development Bank commissioned the consultant CES clean energy solutions to carry out the Environmental Social Impact Assessment (incl. ESMP, SEP, LRP, LAP and climate risk assessment) for Solar4Kosovo II / Solar District Heating (ESIA SDH Pristina). alpS is supporting CES clean energy solutions as a subconsultant with a detailed Climate Risk Analysis (CRA). The aim of the CRA is to analyse the past and future climate in the project area and its potential impact on the solar district heating Pristina.
The CRA consists of the following steps. The first step focuses on the analysis of the observed climate including its changes in Pristina. In the second step, the analysis of future climate trends concentrates on mid-century scenarios and is based on an ensemble of high-resolution regional climate model runs for Europe. For this purpose, the EUR-11 simulations of EURO-CORDEX with an approximate spatial resolution of 12.5 km were used. The results of this analysis is used to identify the climate change impacts on the project. In a final step, adaptation measures were elaborated to increase the climate resilience of the project.
